Enough With the Repeat-Diaries.

I know this is not a diary, but I'm getting agitated.  Very agitated.

I've seen several diaries today about some guy named Daou written by the same diarist, I saw one diary that was asking people to recommend another diary, many diaries on Tuzla-Gate, you get the point.. it's as overplayed as Wright-gate was, even if Tuzla-Gate is more directly connected to a candidate.

Could we restrain ourselves?  Do I have to start a string about Pakistan?

Oh, and enough with the Florida/Michigan diaries. Thanks for the reminder, Newcomer! No idea how I forgot about that and all of the delayed-outrage over it. I didn't hear such passion from people until after including FL/MI became a clear benefit to Clinton.

I wish this war on repeat diaries was authorized before or during the "Destroy Rev. Wright And His Apprentice Obama (AKA The Racists)" week.

Re: Enough With the Repeat-Diaries. (none / 0)

I don't even open a quarter of the diaries here anymore, and I usually just skim the ones I bother to glance at. The incessant rehashing is irritating.

Re: Enough With the Repeat-Diaries. (none / 0)

I'm guessing that the problem is structural.  In the normal course of things, you would expect a Tuzla diary to hit the recommended list for a day or so and be a repository for the whole discussion.  With the recommended list in it's current incarnation and the plethora of content-lite diaries scrolling rapidly there is no way to carry on the kind of in-depth discussion on the subject which one might expect as in previous times, which would be fair enough.  Once a Tuzla diary, or a NAFTA diary, or a 'ordinary white people' diary or whatever fails to meet the unreasonable threshold for making the recommended list it is only natural for another one to appear, exacerbating the scrolling diary problem.  It's fair enough for both Clinton and Obama supporters to seek a forum for issues they want discussed but with the 'gaming' of the recommended list and the generic diary list, in which a series of fluffy diaries are posted to see off a pro-Obama or anti-Clinton diary, or whatever, never mind the high volume of subjective rants, it is unlikely to get any better soon.

Sigh.  It actually devalues the site somewhat, unfortunately, for everybody, but there it is.

Re: Enough With the Repeat-Diaries. (none / 0)

I certainly don't think a Tulza hit diary deserves one second on the recommended list, but I guess that's just me.

Re: Enough With the Repeat-Diaries. (none / 0)

But countless Wright diaries did?

Tuzla-gate is, at least, directly connected to a candidate.

Re: Enough With the Repeat-Diaries. (none / 0)

Setrak. Tulza happened 10 years ago. The next day she went to a forward MASH unit. What you are accusing her of is a big non starter. The Wright matter is a big deal to many. It is not to me. I actually think what Wright said is pretty cool, but I'm not running for president. The thing that I think is a big deal is that Obama said that he was not in the pews and then said that he was. You might say that this "lie" is on the par with Clinton's Tuzla misspeak, but I don't think it is at all. The later could very easily be a mistaken memory confusing two things that happened in the past. I really don't remember stuff from 10 years ago with all that much clarity. But, Obama know when he said that he was not in the pews, that he was in the pews. That's real lying.

I am guessing that it does not do your candidate much good to be talking about who has a better record on truthfulness. But, by all means, go ahead, if you think this is your gotcha moment.

Re: Enough With the Repeat-Diaries. (none / 0)

There are a LOT of hit diaries --- it often seems there are more of them than the positive diaries --- and most don't really deserve to be on the rec list.

But the point here is well taken.  There are two diaries, right now, of the five on the rec list, that are both written by the same author and both feature, as their central point, the Daou blog on the Obama campaign going negative.  I can live with multiple people doing a diary on the same issues.  But two blogs from one person on that issue?  Even if one of them is a valid, issue oriented (non-hit) piece, wouldn't it be better to have something DIFFERENT on the rec list?

No way. No how. No McCain.

Re: Enough With the Repeat-Diaries. (none / 0)

Well, that's a subjective view.  If there was one diary per issue, deservedly or otherwise from the point of view of both camps, in the recommended list, for example, the repeat diaries wouldn't tend to occur, that's all I'm sayin'.  It's just the way it is.

Guilty.... (none / 0)

I was the one that posted the diary suggesting that people recommend the diary:

Barack I-didn't-know Obama

This is not something that I would normally do. But I saw this indredibly well sourced and very significant diary zoom down the list. There were lots of diaries that were posated at that time, and I was afraid that people would not see it. The author, who I don't know at all, definately put many hours of work into this excellent informative critique of Obama's veracity over this campaign.

I posted the meta-pimp when it was three from the bottom, only a short time after it had been posted. It did make the rec list and I immediately deleted my pimp-diary.

I recognize that this is an exceptional thing to do, but I don't regret it. I definately think that this diary is a great resource for those who are interested in Obama's record of hypocrisy.

This is a major campaign issue. We are about to elect a new President of the United States and people should know who they are voting for.

In eight or so years of blogging (mostly on dKos, but I'm sort of off of there now), I've only done that once before. I won't abuse the technique, but I don't regret it tonight at all.

Great job, mbolak, and I definately recommend studying his diary.
